"How to Train a Mysticon" is the second episode of Mysticons. The episode premiered August 29, 2017 on both Nickelodeon in the United States and YTV in Canada.

Summary
The second generation of legendary Mysticons, and mid Astromancer Malvaron, head to the Astromancer Academy to begin their training as new protectors of the realm. Their instructor, Tazma, reveals to them the Codex, a very powerful book of ancient spells of light magic that was sealed across the realm for safety.
Having been given a riddle, the Mysticons go to solve it, but are attacked by the Mage who reveals herself to be none other than their own instructor. Arkayna manages to solve the riddle and obtain the very first fragment of the Codex: A medium-sized forest green-colored book of various spells; thus gaining the mystical power of the bright green Dragon Bracer and defeats Tazma.
Back in the Star Chamber, Malvaron Grimm becomes permanent Solon to the second generation of legendary Mysticons, replacing his corrupt elder sister, with his best friend Doug Hadderstorm the Cyclops as his assistant. Needing a base of operation, Emerald takes them to the old, old palace which they choose as their secret stronghold.

In the Episode
- Tazma is revealed to be one of the corrupted Astromancers who betrayed the Mysticons and who has been secretly working for Dreadbane. She was the Mage who had forced Piper and Zarya to steal the almighty Dragon Disk in the previous episode.
- Princes Arkayna obtains the very first fragment of the Codex: a forest green-colored, medium-sized spellbook. This further develops and magnifies her abilities twenty times, with the mystical power of the bright green Dragon Bracer.
- The Mysticons encounter Nova Terron and Doug Hadderstorm for the first time.
- This marks the first appearance of the Astromancer Academy and the Star Chamber.
Outside the Episode
- The title refers to the Mysticons' training sessions with the ancient and strong Astromancers, as well as them attaining the very first piece of their mighty Codex on a dragon train. It also is a pun on the How to Train Your Dragon movies.
- The song that lays when the Mysticons use their first training techniques at the Astromancer Academy is You're Not the Boss of Me! It is the only song available on YouTube in addition to the theme song.
