Gems of the Past is the sixteenth episode of Mysticons. It first aired in the United States on November 19, 2017 at 8:30 am on Nickelodeon.

The Mysticons race Queen Necrafa to find four extremely powerful yet dangerous gems to achieve her full strength. Gawayne is revealed to possess them, planning to give them to his pixie girlfriend as an anniversary gift. To make matters worse, Nova Terron and the other Astromancers has declared the Mysticons outlaws and are offering a reward for their capture.

Plot Summary

In Victory Heights, Barnabas shows some kids holograms of the final battle between Necrafa and Imani Firewing, the original Dragon Mage, one thousand years ago. It is then that Necrafa herself arrives and creates an earthquake that brings forth purple and green gems, which she affixes to her necklace and heads off to find the remaining two.

On the palace balcony, Princess Arkayna, Emerald, Piper and Zarya are shocked to see on a news story that Nova Terron has declared them outlaws, despite their success in activating the Dragon Disk and uniting the great and powerful Codex book. He then shows the people the "crimes" the Mysticons have done, such as breaking into the Astromancer Academy, to which Arkayna angrily says that they did so to save the realm. Nova Terron then offers a reward for the capture of the Mysticons which infuriates Zarya. Gawayne shows up and asks what they're watching, to which he replies that it is "haliari" and that they there is even a hotline to call if anyone spots the Mysticons, such as Drake City's Most Wanted. He asks for Arkayna's advice, as she is a girl, for what color gem he should give his pixie girlfriend, Lateensia: Blue or orange. She frustratingly suggests dark orange, yet he picks deep blue instead. A call from Malvaron interrupts their step-family squabble, who says that the Mysticons need to "suit up" and meet him at Victory Heights right away.

Once the Mysticons make the scene, Malvaron tells Barnabas to tell the Mysticons what he just told him. Barnabas says that he had seen Necrafa use her evil powers to pull two "thingamajigs" out of the ground. Unable to tell what they were, Malvaron casts a nonverbal hindsight spell that allows the Mysticons to see the Past; in the case, the battle of Victory Heights, one thousand years previously. Arkayna is amazed upon seeing her predecessor, Imani Firewing, the very first Dragon Mage. All five witness Imani's final stand against Dreadbane until Queen Necrafa appeared before her. Malvaron guesses that Necrafa must have lost something very important that day, they just need to find out what. They see Imani release the mighty power of the Star Dragon and blast the Queen of the Undead into oblivion in rays of golden light. Malvaron freezes time, and they see that the four colored gems- green and purple, blue and orange- had broken off from Necrafa's necklace. Now that they know what Necrafa seeks, they return to the present.

Arkayna tries and fails to contact her arrogant stepbrother, who is purposefully ignoring her pleas for him to not give away the gems. Malvaron reminds her and the others of them being wanted fugitives. Piper merely says "We're the Mysticons. The People love us." As they head to Drake City, Mathis uses his glyph to contact the Astromancers, as he wants to report a "Mysticon sighting."

Gawayne is gliding through the city on a hover board pursuing Lateensia who says that having a mini-pedi takes a lot of work. Gawayne is about to give her the orange gem, but is knocked down by bumping into a one-eyed giant, who he gives the gem to and runs off. The giant has little to examine the gem, as it is snatched away from him and falls into the hands of Necrafa. She is about to put in her necklace to rejoin her purple and green gems, but is stopped by the arrival of the Mysticons, whom she considers to be even more annoying than their predecessors, to which Arkayna says that they take it as a compliment. She and Emerald utilize their Dragon and Unicorn bracers against her, but the Queen of the Undead absorbs them both into her gem and purple gems; staying that she possesses powers they cannot begin to imagine.

  • Princess Arkayna: "Malvaron, send us back. I got a call to make."

  • Queen Necrafa: "The Mysticons. You are even more annoying than your predecessors."
  • Princess Arkayna: "We'll take that as a compliment."

  • Proxima: "I will have justice!! For this!!"
  • Emerald: "Oh my goblin, I am so sorry."

  • Princess Arkayna: "Come girls. It's-"
  • Piper: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Aren't we still outlaws?"
  • Emerald: "No matter what they call us, we'll always be Mysticons."

  • Zarya: "Not a chance."
  • Princess Arkayna: "The important thing is that the people are behind us, and we'll always be their Mysticons."
