"Eternal Starshine of the Mage's Mind" is the thirty-eighth episode of Mysticons, and the eighteenth episode of the second season.

It aired on September 1st, 2018, at 9:30 am.

Summary[]

With "aid" from Tazma, the Mysticons enter the deepest corners of Proxima's subconscious mind to sever the now stronger hold the Mask has over her. Throughout their mental journey, the Mysticons discover just how horrible they were toward Proxima; Princess Arkayna in particular, who had obliviously betrayed and abandoned her for Zarya with a second thought, making Proxima feel more alone than ever, which made her susceptible to the Mask's evil and promises of the bitter vengeance she rightfully deserved.

Meanwhile, Mallory and her sisters have turned on Proxima and intend to release the Spectral Hand from its pillar-like prison. When Mallory finally puts it on, the Mask corrupts her as well, which concerns her three sisters, whom she calls her "minions."

In the Episode[]

  • How Hortensia Sparklebottom had deliberately switched the orphaned toddler Proxima with the toddler Zarya, out of dozens of other orphaned human girls, is revealed.
  • Zarya had a nickname by Mrs. Sparklebottom: "Little Howler" due to her howling just like wolves. This is another fact of the last name she naturally took from the couple she believed to her her parents, and eventually being the second human to wield the light blue, mystic Wolf Bracer
  • Even as a child, Proxima was constantly bullied, neglected and passed over by most for being nothing a "charity case" due to her having no parents nor other relatives.
  • Piper refers to her traveling to an alternate reality in "The Edge of Two Morrows".
  • It is seen that, as a mid-level Starling, Proxima had been constantly bullied by Tazma and other Astromancers, which further fueled her feelings of bitter loneliness and misery, due to her having no family and her low status as a "charity case."
  • Tazma is finally released from her snow-globe and utilizes her darker topmost star magic to teleport to places unknown on Gemina.
  • We see how Princess Arkayna had obviously and completely pushed an unloved and dejected Proxima further away as her "twin sister", and that she merely took no notice of how just deeply hurt and broken Proxima had been because of her, to the point of her putting on the half of the Mask of her own volition.
  • Proxima had stated aloud of just how oblivious Princess Arkayna is to the feelings of others; the first was Emerald in "Quest of the Vexed."
  • Proxima's accusation about how Princess Arkayna always made things worse for her is confirmed here, which had been stated in "Happily Never After." It also completely disproves Princess Arkayna's assurance that she did love Proxima and always would, in the same episode.
  • The spell Tazma told Princess Arkayna to search through Proxima's girlhood memories translates to "Honest Mind Memory."

Outside the Episode[]

  • The title is a play on the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
  • In the episode 6 of season 4 of 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Journey to the Center of Mikey's Mind" Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael go on a mental journey throughout the subconscious and most personal memories of their youngest brother Michelangelo.
  • Doug is voiced by a British actor here, his final speaking role.
